Yoneda Copy Mill Retrofitted with SINUMERIK 840D at Melbourne's
Columbia Tool and Die
Our Melbourne office has recently converted a Yoneda
copy mill to a CNC machine for Columbia Tool and Die, one of Melbourne's
largest die makers. Rod Groom, Columbia's Managing Director spoke
to CNC Design's Daniel Fabiyanic.
How did you chose CNC Design to the job ?
CNC Design was recommended to us by Alflex, a machine tool supplier
of ours. This recommendation was given on the basis of service provided
to Aflex. The machine provided by Aflex also came with a Siemens
SINUMERIK 840D control.
What is your opinion of the engineering carried out on the job?
It was excellent, we are very pleased with the end result.
What do you think of the finished product?
The finished product was excellent, we were pleased with the attention
to detail given by the engineers and production staff involved.
Has the retrofit met your expectation of performance?
The machine has met all our expectations for performance and operation.
We have conducted dimensional checks on the parts manufactured on
the machine and we are very pleased with the results.

How would you rate this machine now?
The performance of the machine is now parallel to any new
machine we have on the shop floor, and the productivity we
get form it is also the same as the new machine on the floor.
Would you retrofit again?
We would be happy to retrofit again and we have a machine
in mind to do in the future. Of the other quotes we received,
CNC Design was the only company willing to guarantee the performance
outcome of the retrofit.
