SINAMIC S120 is available with both servo as well as with vector control and V/f control. Designed to allow fast commissioning, SINAMICS S120 sets new standards in user-friendliness.

The system is fully scalable in terms of its control type, output, functionality, communications interface and number of axes, covering all of your mechanical and plant engineering requirements and opening up a whole new world of possibilities.

SINAMICS S120 is particularly suitable for multi-axis applications due to its modular structure and large number of components, you can configure your SINAMICS S120 system to suit your own specific requirements. All the relevant components are equipped with electronic type plates and communicate with each other via the DRIVE-CLiQ system interface. The broad line voltage range allows the system to be used anywhere in the world.

Together with SIMOTION and SIMATIC PLC, it is possible to design fully integrated and powerful machine automation solutions from single supplier. The PROFIBUS DP is used as the communication platform for this application.

Configuring and Commissioning Tools
For configuring and commissioning SINAMICS, Siemens introduce powerful and uniform tools during all phases of the project.

SIZER
This software is used for sizing and dimensioning based on typical application. Sizer provides supports for:

• Calculating the load
• Dimensioning the motor and power components
• Configuration of further system components.

SIZER generates the following reports:

• Configuration results (characteristics, technical specifications, location diagrams and dimension drawings)
• Bill of materials with associated ordering data

STARTER
All drives of the SINAMICS family may be commissioned using STARTER software. This tool permits simple, menu based and graphically-supported configuration and start up of the drive components. This will result in short commissioning time and avoids incorrect inputs.

The integrated graphical-supported test functions in STARTER can be used to check functions and optimize parameters. The timing of speed, setpoints and actual-value curves can be recorded for further anylisis.

In conjunction with the application with SIMOTION motion control system, STARTER can be integrated into SCOUT engineering system. The same applies to operation of the drives with SIMATIC. In this case, STARTER can be embedded into STEP 7 programming software.
