Modular
Software System for Machine Tools
At the EMO 2003 trade fair in Milan, Siemens Automation and
Drives (A&D) is presenting the new modular motion control
information system (MCIS) for machine constructors and operators.
This modular software comprises a tool-set for monitoring,
managing, maintaining and optimizing everything from individual
machine tools to complete production systems. The individual
packages can be used in a system in conjunction with Sinumerik
or other controllers.
The new MCIS comprises several modules: MCIS MDA (machine
data acquisition) is a software tool for recording machine/production
data such as runtimes and machining times, while MCIS PMT
(part monitoring and tracking) records the machining results
in production and assembly and also supplies important quality
data for parts tracking. The MCIS PDA (production data acquisition)
module enables production orders to be communicated and controlled,
while MCIS DNC (direct numerical control) coordinates, distributes
and manages NC programs. The module MCIS TDI (tool data information
system) is available for tool management and determining tool
requirements. Preventive maintenance of the machines and plants
can be organized individually, taking into account the loading
of each machine, by means of MCIS TPM (totally productive
maintenance). MCIS RCS (remote control system) is a service
management tool for corrective maintenance. With an automatic
signaling system and the option of worldwide remote support,
the remote control system offers transparency and fast access
in the event of machine faults, even across corporate
This means that the modules cover a large bandwidth of different
function areas and are unique in the market in terms of their
scope and interaction. By using a common data structure, all
modules operate hand in hand. Synergy effects when using all
MCIS modules help to reveal potential for improvement, to
secure and continually improve the long-term economy of a
production plant.
