Siemens SINUMERIK CNC controls used at Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd

Mitsubishi has been a staunch Fanuc user for many, many years now, but after many visits and presentations, we finally cracked our first sale and the first ever Siemens Control system was successfully installed at Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd., in their powertrain manufacturing plant in Lonsdale (Adelaide), South Australia.

The machine was a "special purpose" Disk Brake lathe, retrofitted using a Siemens 802D control and 1FK7 servo motors.

This has hopefully started a trend, because in early 2004, Chiron-Werke Asia Pacific Pty. Ltd. will be installing and commissioning two brand new Chiron machines, with Siemens 840D control systems, which will be used in the manufacturing process of their steering knuckles.

Mr Effy Epiphany, Vice President and General Manager of Chiron-Werke Asia Pacific, told CNC Design that he is sure these will not be the last as now that Siemens is accepted, they are hoping to win more orders for machines at MMAL, as early as first quarter 2004.(01/12/2003)
