MASTERDRIVE VC Compact Plus
Compact design in the lower performance range


Simovert Masterdrives Vector Control (VC) Compact Plus extends the range of drive systems from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) in the power range from 0.5 to 18.5 kilowatts. Thanks to their compact design, the new devices are ideal for applications in machines with restricted space available. There is room in 300 mm cabinets not only for converters and inverters, but also for rectifier units. The new drive system is coordinated with the Motion Control series of the same design. Its particular area of application is in the pre- and post-processing of products.

Two inverters can be connected to one converter of the Masterdrives VC Compact Plus version, without an additional rectifier unit. A DC link bus module ensures quick installation. For complex multiple axis systems, powerful rectifier units are available for the DC network. The converters and rectifier units offer an integral braking chopper. This means that for generating operation, only one external braking resistor is necessary. The “Safe stop” device option is available for all inverters, but only for converters with an output of more than 5.5 kW. This safety switch prevents the drive from starting up unexpectedly.

Devices can be connected to IT networks using the option “Operation on floating network”. As with the devices of the Vector Control family of converters, the following are also available for the Compact Plus version: a function block library for open-loop, logic and closed-loop control functions, an extensive selection of modules for communication, terminal expansion and encoder evaluation, as well as the Drive ES engineering system.

The Masterdrives VC Compact Plus drive system can also be expanded by retrofitting system components. For example, a capacitor module which permits momentary power buffering or a coupling module for connection to other devices of the Masterdrives series, such as AFE rectifier/regenerative feedback units in the Compact version.

The combination of Masterdrives Vector Control with Masterdrives Motion Control creates an integrated system from winding to servo. This makes the Compact Plus version particularly suitable for use in the textile, packaging and printing industries as well as in the processing and manufacture of plastics.
