- Built-in Torque motor with torque of up to 7,500 Newton
meters
In the field of machine tool drives, Siemens
Automation and Drives (A&D) presents the 1FW6 torque motor
series with an increased torque range of up to 7,500 Newton
meters. Torque motors are rotary motors, designed for an extremely
high torque output. Thus the motors can also be used as direct
drives. The 1FW6 series operates according to the synchronous
motor principle with permanently excited magnets on the rotor
side. The increased torque results, among others, from improved
cooling.
In general, the torque is attained through
a fixed stator which transmits the torque directly to the
rotor via the air gap as is the case with a linear motor.
This drive concept makes mechanical transmission elements
unnecessary, averting any inaccuracies inherent to mechanical
solutions. In addition, the torque motor is virtually wear-
and maintenance-free.
By increasing the torque by 3,400 Newton
meters at an outer diameter of 730 millimeters, the 1FW6 is
particularly interesting for large rotary table and rotary
indexing applications. Torque motors are particularly suitable
for following application in machine tools:
- Driving large rotary tables or swiveling axes in high-speed
cutting centers or profile milling with swiveling heads
in large-scale machining centers
- Driving quick run-up axes on turning machines
- High dynamic tool magazines in machining centers and in
robotics
