High speed cutting with SINUMERIK 840D satisfies

The technology behind the SINUMERIK 840D
makes 100% perfect high-speed cutting, from technology that
is based on an integrated multiprocessor system and two Intel
Pentium processors.
By using the Siemens innovative SINUMERIK 840D control and
digital drive technology SIMODRIVE
611D, the limits of high speed machining are constantly
being extended. With SINUMERIK control systems, technology
related milling machining centers are capable of achieving
a precision of better than 1 micron and in combination with
linear motors,
acceleration rates far beyong 1 g (=9,81 m/s2).
Features of SINUMERIK 840D which
play important roles in providing the utmost machining result
for high speed cutting are::
- Look Ahead. Short accelerations and decelerations
on machine tools generate oscillations, which can impair
the surface quality. Look-Ahead prevents these oscillations
and smooths the preset speed profiles.
- Traverse without following errors with Feed Forward
Control. Inaccuracies caused by following errors
are eliminated.
- At high speeds, jerks (changes in acceleration) cause
stress to the machine tool's mechanical system. Jerk
Limitation enables the machine to achieve optimum
acceleration behaviour and noticeably reduces wear on the
machine's mechanical parts.
- Precise components surfaces in the CAD/CAM system are
approximated in conventional CNC's using linear blocks resulting
in uneven cutting patterns. NURBS, the
interpolation process in the SINUMERIK 840D, means free
forms can be interpolated accurately, even at high feedrates.
- Active Vibration Damping. Resonant frequencies
of the machine are selectively dampened using digital filters.Machines
with SINUMERIK work more accurately.
- Highest Measuring System Resolution
with four million increments per motor revolution to ensure
positional accuracy
- Electronic Compensation for mechanical
errors such as axis reversals, ball screw errors, machine
geometry, and measuring system errors
